The different stages of parenting present varied challenges for every family. Parenting challenges are significantly influenced by the families we grew up in ourselves, each family members' personality, individuals' unique physical and emotional needs, the level of family and community support available, and patterns of interaction and connection we may not even be conscious of.
The Circle of Security Parenting program is an internationally acclaimed 8-10 session course supporting caregivers to understand children's emotional development better, improve caregiver-child relationships, and enhance secure connections. The Circle of Security program assists parents in emotionally supporting their children, in turn improving secure attachment, resilience, and school readiness. While originally developed for parents of younger children, the principles equally apply to parenting teens (or even young adults) as well.
Circle of Security Parenting is not a behaviour change program. Research shows, however, that the program's emphasis on quality relationships can have a significant positive impact on children's anger levels, problem-solving skills, happiness, friendships, family relationships, and trust. If you are struggling with developing the kind of relationship you would like with your child, or with their behaviour, this program is worth considering.
Even positive and respectful relationships have challenging issues and difficult periods. The Gottman approach to relationship challenges focuses on improving friendship and positive connection, managing conflict in constructive ways, reducing negativity, and creating shared meaning. While the strategies were developed for use with couples, they can be adapted for a wide range of relationship contexts. BLEW Services are here to help you explore information and practical strategies to build more positive relationships with your partner, colleagues, family members, or friends.
